Don’t know your julienne from your chiffonade or your paring knife from your boning knife? This is the course for you! Starting with the basics of choosing the right knife for the right task, and keeping your knives in tip-top condition, expert cook Lap-fai Lee will guide you through some fantastic recipes that will enable you to learn all the essential knife skills – from chopping an onion in double-quick time, to mincing garlic with the side of the knife, to filleting fish with a flexible filleting knife.

Throughout the evening we’ll taste the fruits of our labour –  a delicious tomato salsa with grilled fish, Asian slaw, fish-fragrant aubergine and pear frangipane tart. The course is meat-free.

The hands-on workshop lasts for approximately two and three quarter hours (including eating a meal at the end), and will end with a knife sharpening demonstration, using a whetstone.

The course usually takes place on a weekday evening from 6.30pm-9.30pm at Loaf HQ in Stirchley, South Birmingham. You’ll feel right at home at Loaf, and everything you learn will set you up for impressing your friends and family with your new found skills at home.
