Seafood Two: Shellfish

Join Loaf and seafood expert Lap-fai Lee for a hands-on evening learning the art and science of shellfish preparation and cookery. Many people are scared of shellfish preparation when it’s something that our forebears did routinely. This three hour workshop aims to take the fear out of shellfish and give you the knowledge and skills to go home and start enjoying preparing shellfish in your own kitchen. It’s actually pretty quick, easy and fun when you know how!

During the course you’ll learn and practice cleaning, preparation, and cooking for a range of shellfish including crabs, oysters, and lobster (subject to availability). Using the freshest possible shellfish from Birmingham’s excellent wholesale market, you’ll also be introduced to both Asian and European cookery styles and sit down to eat some incredible shellfish dishes at the end of the evening including crab linguine, dressed oysters, and chargrilled squid. Dishes vary according to season and freshness but you can be sure of a fantastic fishy feast.

The course usually takes place on a weekday evening and starts promptly at 6.30pm and finishes at 9.30pm at Loaf’s brand new high street cookery school on Stirchley High Street in south Birmingham. You’ll feel right at home at Loaf, and everything you learn will set you up for bringing your own kitchen alive.
